What is Wohngeld?
A government subsidy towards rent for low-income households. The legal basis is the Wohngeldgesetz (WoGG).
Who is entitled to Wohngeld?
Tenant households with their main residence in Leipzig whose income is above the minimum income and below the income limit and who do not receive Bürgergeld, basic income support or BAföG.
Can I receive Wohngeld and Kinderzuschlag at the same time?
Yes. Anyone with children under 25 in the household can also apply for Kinderzuschlag.
Why does Bürgergeld exclude Wohngeld?
Bürgergeld already includes housing costs – a double payment is excluded by law.
Is child benefit (Kindergeld) counted towards Wohngeld?
No. Child benefit is not included in the Wohngeld calculation – families receive Wohngeld and child benefit side by side.
