Appealing a Wohngeld decision
If you disagree with your Wohngeld decision – for example because the entitlement was rejected or the amount was miscalculated – you can appeal. Here is how.
The deadline
The appeal must be received within one month of the decision being announced. The deadline is stated in the decision's instructions on legal remedies.
Form and content
The appeal can be submitted in writing or recorded at the Wohngeld office. It should name the decision and explain why you disagree with it.
The reasoning matters
The more specific the reasoning, the better the Wohngeld office can review the case – for example if income was miscalculated or household members were overlooked. Requests for additional documents are possible.
What happens after the appeal
The Wohngeld office reviews the decision again. If it considers the appeal justified, it grants it. Otherwise it issues an appeal decision – which can be challenged in court.
Tip
Keep the decision and all receipts – they are the basis for your appeal.
